Working together-it’s more than weeding!

All year round and each Monday morning a gang of folks, wearing purple MeGA tabards, arrives in the Memorial Gardens at about 9.30am for the start of our gardening session together.

We know each other now and new folks are always welcomed in—we are about 30 strong when we are all there.

The evidence of our regular hard work is evident from the creation of a new Wildlife garden to a brighter and less weedy long border down one side of the gardens.

Dog walkers, parents with children ,walkers and runners stop to say “Thank you for making this place so beautiful”— and it is beautiful and it’s more than the gardening that makes it so.. We share stories, ask after one another, laugh and sometimes cry together . Our mental health gets a polishing as well as our physical well-being. At the end of the morning we settle to coffee and cake, chat about what we have done and then say goodbye til the next time.

The garden gives back and as we turn away we feel content that we have played our part and touched base with others again.
