This Month In The Gardens
This month, we have an interview with Ally and Mark, some rare visitors, and a list of birds recorded in the gardens. Hello to Ally and Mark. So what got you involved with the gardening group? Ally, During COVID, with support for Mark, we were still allowed to go out and do stuff. We happened to have a walk through the gardens and saw the sign, so I stopped and had a chat about what they did, confirmed it was okay with Mark's dad, and then we started. How long have you bee

This Month in the Gardens
When does Spring start? Meteorological seasons offer a simple and consistent way of dividing the year. In the UK, meteorological spring always begins on 1 March and ends on 31 May. Looking at some of the pictures members have taken, it looks like we are getting there. One feels that the gardens are now waking up, and we look forward to the new season with planting and seeing more colours. Frog Spawn in the Wild Garden Pond A Birthday And some colour supplied by our members. T

This Month in The Gardens
Hi all, another year starts with a dismal, dull and damp January, but we have had record numbers of members turn out for this month’s Monday sessions, thank you all. Of course, the delicious cakes and the exceptional coffee helps. This month, we had the AGM, and the guest speaker was Sophia Kourpas, Green Space Development Officer. Sophia told us about plans for the coming year around the embankment and gardens. Sophia also took questions from members. Councillor Michael Edwa

This Month in the Gardens
December is here, colder and wetter than the last few months and thankfully, all the rain has helped fill up the pond in the Wildlife Garden. The Memorial gardens are looking tidy thanks to the work of the MeGA volunteers, lots of leaf clearing, weeding and planting ready for Spring, especially on the rockery. 2026 will mark a hundred years since the rockery was created. Matt has treated the marestail, and now heathers have been planted. We have had plenty of cakes, coffee,

This Month, A History of MeGA, so far.
After the local councillors named MeGA in one of their leaflets this month, regarding the Lottery Fund and the refurbishment of the Memorial Gardens. I thought it would be interesting to see how MeGA came into being. Liz Vyvian has written a history of MeGA. I have posted it below. Thank you, Liz. Don't forget the MeGA Christmas do on Monday, 8th December, straight after gardening. Don't forget to tick the Pizza you want. 2016, MeGA began with a group of half a dozen local p

The Past Month in The Gardens in Pictures and Words
🍂 As the days grow shorter and the air turns cooler, autumn brings its beautiful colours to the trees and bushes. One thing about being a MeGA volunteer is that you won't miss this seasonal change. Autumn is a chance to look back on what we’ve accomplished. Please take a moment to remember the flowers, colours of summer, the smiles, and the comments of visitors to the Memorial Gardens we've helped cultivate. Work now starts on getting everything ready for Spring next year.
